Aaron Lloyd Fruechtenicht, 89, of Eldridge, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Kahl Home in Davenport.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge where Aaron was a charter member. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Aaron was born February 17, 1925 in Davenport, the son of Louis & Mabel (Meyer) Fruechtenicht. He grew up on the family farm west of Eldridge and graduated from Davenport High School. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and then began his life-long career of farming.
He married Alberta Meier with whom he had three daughters. They divorced in 1957. On December 18, 1960, he married LaVonne A. Mohr at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Iowa. They have two sons.
Aaron's hobbies included bowling, golf, travel, woodworking and woodcarving. He was a member of the Eldridge Lions Club and a fifty-year member of Davenport Masonic Lodge #37.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, LaVonne; his daughters, Susette Fruechtenicht of Rock Springs, Georgia, Mary MacDonald of Lanexa, Virginia , Linda (Louis) Bailey of Lexington, Kentucky; his sons, Gary (Georgia) Fruechtenicht of Newnan, Georgia and Brian (Deborah) Fruechtenicht of Reno, Nevada; his grandchildren, Paula MacDonald-Gainey and August & Virginia Fruechtenicht; his step-grandchildren, Joshua and Sean Hayes; and one great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Gainey; and his brother, Melvin (Betty) Fruechtenicht of Huntsville, Alabama.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Grand Haven Retirement Community, the Kahl Home and Heartland Hospice for their assistance during his long journey through the stages of Alzheimer's disease.
