Dr. Ahmad Chamany

February 3, 1937 — October 1, 2024

Dr. Ahmad Chamany, 87, of Bettendorf passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A visitation celebrating his life will be held from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home at 644 River Drive in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 58 years Parvin, his three daughters Katayoun (Clarence Elie), Shireen (Marcus Bevels) and Shadi (Brian Newman), grandson Amir, and brothers- and sister-in-law, Changiz, Parviz (Evelyn), and Akram. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mahmad and sister Rohbob.

Ahmad was born in Kermanshah, Iran and obtained his medical degree in Iran before immigrating to the U.S. in 1968. Ahmad served his community as a general surgeon at the Davenport Clinic for over 30 years. He was a compassionate doctor who was regaled with homemade gifts each holiday season and showered with gratitude for the care he brought to his patients and their families, often forgoing compensation when he sensed financial challenge. Ahmad also served on the ethics board for the local hospital and provided care for the labor force at Oscar Mayer.

A man of science and arts and a life-long learner, he often remarked on the philosophy of life, the awe of nature, and the etymology of words in English and Farsi. A self-taught photographer, poet, flutist, and pianist, he would spend his free time filling the house with music, reciting poetry, and exploring new places in nature and documenting what he saw through pictures.

Tennis was his passion and as an avid fitness buff, he was a well-known figure among the Life Fitness Center and YMCA communities - even teaching Farsi to a fellow weightlifting buddy. He loved films and could recall every movie star in the blink of an eye.

He taught his daughters the value of a solid work ethic, and being intentional, responsible and disciplined. As a father and grandfather, he stressed the importance of character, education, and enjoying life.
