Alan Frederick Maurer, 79, a resident of Low Moor, Iowa died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, Iowa.
As per his wishes there will be no services.
Alan was born June 13, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Edward and Ruth (Ringenberg) Maurer. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Dixie Long in Rock Island, Illinois in 1967.
Alan worked at the Maurer Oldsmobile Dealership that his family owned and operated in Wilton, Iowa.
Upon retirement, Alan and his wife Dixie moved to Fort Meyers, Florida for 25 years.
He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed boating and being on the water, watching television, was an avid race fan and loved John Wayne westerns.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dixie, Low Moor; his son, James Maurer, Leigh Hi Acres, Florida; his step-children, Deborah Ackerman, Urbana, Illinois and John Boesch, Addy, Washington and his grandchildren, Chad Ackerman, Urbana, J.D. Boesch, Virginia and Matt Boesch, Lake Geneva, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffery who was killed in the Vietnam War.
