Alan F. Steinbrecher, 78, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, July 17, 2006 at his home.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Interment will be private. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Bettendorf Park Band or to C.A.S.I.
He was born October 22, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Frank Albert & Helen (Price) Steinbrecher and was a graduate of St. Ambrose Academy.
He married Joyce Imming in 1948 in Tipton, Iowa. He later married Betty Hippler on December 23, 1967 in Bettendorf.
Al owned & operated Bettendorf Office Products, a company he founded in January of 1977. He retired from active involvement in the company in 1993.
An accomplished musician, Al played baritone & tenor saxophone in the Bettendorf Park Band for many years. In addition, he was a musician in the CASI New Horizons Band and the Orion (Illinois) Community Band. Al loved music and was an active member of the Musicians Union, the “Scotch & Soda” band and the “Jesters” band.
During the Korean Conflict, he served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army Band in Korea and was honorably discharged following the war.
Athletics were an important part of Al’s life. He played softball for many years and officiated at countless high school baseball, football & basketball games.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty; his daughter, Cheri (Ken) Wallerich of Lowden, Iowa; his son, Tom (Pat) Steinbrecher of Davenport, Iowa; his grandsons, Brandon & Kyle; his step-sons, Tom (Mary Ann) Hippler of San Antonio, Texas and their children, Adam & Luke, and Mark Hippler of Davenport; his step-daughters, Catherine (Steve) Hershberger of Bettendorf & their children, Sam, Tom & Kylie, and Elizabeth Hippler of Bettendorf & her children, Jessica, Spencer & Collin Ellis.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; and by his granddaughter, Nicole Marie.
