Albert Chamberlin Jr.

d. July 13, 2019

Albert Lee Chamberlin Jr.  94, passed away July 13, 2019 at Senior Star in Davenport, Iowa. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa.  Military honors will be conducted by the LeClaire American Legion Buffalo Bill Post 347.

Albert was born January 29, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clara Mae (Lambach) and Albert Lee Chamberlin Sr.

Albert served as a radioman and Gunner on a B17 in the US Army Air Force during WWII. While in Military service he attended Texas Tech as well as a number of radio and electronics schools located in South Dakota, Nebraska and Arizona.  After discharge from Military service, he attended Drake University and Coe College.

He married Patricia Louise Giles on June 6, 1947.  They were married for 69 years.  She preceded him in death on June 23, 2016.  They had one daughter, Paula.

Albert retired from Qwest as a Test Room Supervisor after 38 years of service, and was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Albert loved the outdoors.  In younger days he had hunting dogs and spent many hours hunting pheasant and quail.  He also enjoyed fishing.   For a period of some 40 years he and Pat would spend two weeks in the Spring and two weeks in the Fall fishing for walleye in Canada and northern Minnesota.  Both he and Pat skied in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa.  During the Christmas vacation they would take their grand kids with them.  He was quite proud of them when they became proficient enough to win medals in down hill racing.  He and his wife enjoyed camping out on the sand bars and islands of the upper Mississippi river with friends and with the grandchildren.

While Al would not call himself a world traveler, he with his wife and friends traveled into southern Mexico on several occasions as well as trips or cruises south of Puerto Rico to Venezuela.  One Winter he, Pat, and friends spent two weeks in Costa Rico. They had a hotel reservation on the day they arrived and the day they departed.  For the next twelve days they rented cabs and toured the country north to south and east to west with no real plan in mind.  Al and Pat also found time to visit Europe, England and Alaska.  Whenever he traveled south, he would always find time to do some deep-sea fishing.

Later in life Al took up golfing and became an avid fan.  However, he would be the first to say that on his very best days he was never more than a Bogie golfer.  He did enjoy the people he met and played with.

Survivors include his daughter, Paula (Richard) Rath of Sherrard, Illinois; grandchildren, Aaron Frels of Burlington, Iowa, Edwin Frels of Normal, Illinois, Jason (Calynn) Schiess of Matherville, Illinois;  great-grand-children, James (Moni Gustafson) Long of Hangzhou, China, Ethan Frels of Normal, Illinois, KinnicK Schiess of Matherville, Illinois; and multiple nieces and nephews that were close to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Clarice; and wife, Patricia.

The family would like to thank the staff of Senior Star Memory Care for their excellent care of Albert.
