Albert Carl Mercy, 80, a resident of Park View, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland, Iowa. Al faced a brief illness of cancer with concern for his family and graceful stubbornness.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Eldridge United Methodist Church in Eldridge. Burial will be at Mt. Joy Cemetery in Park View, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Born on December 24, 1935 in East Moline, Illinois, Al was the son of Andrew and Clara (Rollins) Mercy. On June 25, 1955 in East Moline, he married Emily Elizabeth Dzekunskas. She preceded him in death on January 4, 1984. Al then married Janice Annette Bright on May 1, 1999 in Eldridge.
Al worked for Singer Sewing Machine as a store manager. He worked in real estate sales and appraisals and retired from staff appraising at Wells Fargo.
He was a member of the Quad City Board of Realtors, Optimist Club and Toastmasters. Al enjoyed photography, traveling, golf, computers and spending time with his grandchildren. He will also be remembered for teasing, stirring the pot and making deals.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janice Mercy; daughters, Dawn (Randy) Mercy Jeter of Long Grove, Dianne (Steve) Mercy Vallejo of Moline, Debra (Tim) Mercy Beghtol of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Joanie (Frank) Mercy Drew of Rock Island and Jennifer (Tom) Mercy Johnson of Cambridge; step daughter, Jennifer (Kent) Gehrls of Eldridge; step son, John (Nikki) Sailor of Long Grove; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (Donald) Deopere of Silvis; and brother, Victor Mercy of East Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Emily; sisters, Marie Dehner and Pearl Wirt; brothers, Frank and Rene Mercy; and a half-brother, Raymond Rollins.
Al’s family wishes to thank local Drs. D. Petersen and S. Garneau, University of Iowa Hospital staff and Drs. Ansari and Smock; Hospice Compassus; and the staff at Wheatland Manor for their care and comfort to Al and his family.
