Alberta E. Littrel, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of LeClaire, Iowa died on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at home in Bettendorf.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf.  She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf or to Genesis Hospice.

She was born on January 11, 1923 in LeClaire, the daughter of George W. & Martha A. (McKnight) Mess.  On July 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Littrel at Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 2011.

Alberta has been a waitress at Ross’ Restaurant in Bettendorf for many years.  She had also worked with the Garment Factory in Clinton.  She and her husband, Lester had owned and operated LeClaire Standard in LeClaire and Spruce Hills Mobil in Bettendorf.  She had helped out with her son’s auction business, G.A.L. Auction Service where she helped with the lunch stand and ran the cash register.  Alberta was a former member of the Silver Creek Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in LeClaire.

Those left to honor her memory include her son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Alinda Littrel of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Shellie (Darius) Sturmer of Seattle, Washington, Brian Littrel of Lithia, Florida, Matt Littrel of Bettendorf and Bridgette Littrel of Lithia; her great-grandchildren, Joshua & Alexander Littrel of Lithia, Florida; and her sisters-in-law, Marjorie Van Horst of Davenport and Regina Wilfong of Fort Meyers Florida.

In addition to her husband, Lester, Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Terry L. Littrel of St. Petersburg Beach, Florida who passed away in January of 1997; her grandson, Scott Littrel who passed away in February of 1998; three brothers, Ernest, Eldon and Laverne; and her sisters-in-law, Lenore Mess, Hazel Mess and Lillian Domer.
