Alberta L. Matzen, 79, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Monday, September 4, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 775 E. LeClaire Rd., Eldridge. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge and one hour before services at the church. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department or the Eldridge Branch of the Scott County Library.
She was born December 11, 1926 in Davenport, the daughter of John & Marie (Breckling) Marten. On February 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Matzen in Davenport. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2003.
Alberta & her husband farmed east of Mt. Joy, Iowa for 34 years. In addition, she had been employed by Douglas Industries of Eldridge and hung wallpaper in area homes for many years.
Her memberships included the Pythian Sisterhood where she was a member for 56 years and served as treasurer for 3 years. In addition, she was a member of the Past Chiefs, the Nifty-Fifty, the Eldridge Sportsman’s Club and the Golden Anniversary Club.
Alberta was an accomplished cook and loved to play cards with her family and many friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Joyce (Miles) Walker of Clinton, Iowa, Bonnie (Harlan) Perry of Davenport, Janet Matzen of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Hawaii and Donna (Patrick) Lorenz of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; her son, Larry (Cara) Matzen of Eldridge, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Bernita (Bob) Sell of Mesa, Arizona.
