Albert L. “Al” Matousek, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 11, 2008 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf where he was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
He was born July 27, 1920 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Albert & Stella (Horkey) Matousek. On November 30, 1940, he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Baumbach in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 16, 1978.
Al was employed as an ironworker & crane operator for Sivyer Steel Company of Bettendorf retiring after 29 years of loyal service.
He was a charter member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf, a member of the Davenport Eagles Lodge and a member of the International Association of
Bridge, Structural, Ornamental & Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, Local #111 of Rock Island.
Al was an avid hunter & fisherman and enjoyed feeding his animal friends in his yard.
During World War II and the Korean Conflict, Al faithfully served in the U.S. Navy with the 60th Seabees in the South Pacific and Alaska and was honorably discharged as a Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class in 1952.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Jane (Rev. Gary) Boye of Tempe, Arizona; his grandsons, Matthew & Peter Boye; and a very special friend, Dorothy Barton of Davenport, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, his son, James and his brother, Elmer “Jerry” Matousek, preceded Al in death.
