A. Leroy Martin, 87, a resident of Gladewater, Texas, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Friday, July 25, 2008 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Leroy was born November 16, 1920 in Lancaster, Missouri, the son of W. Everett and Dora A. (Singleton) Martin. On December 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rose Ann May in Rock Island, Illinois.
Albert was a mechanic at Mohr Bros. in Bettendorf, Iowa for forty-six years.
He was self-employed at M&M Garage in Bettendorf, Iowa for eight years.
He enjoyed horses, fishing and camping with family and friends. He also loved listening to his nephews, Alva, David, Daniel and Dean playing guitars and singing.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rose Ann; granddaughter, Tamara (George) of North Carolina and Elaine (Darrell) of Iowa; and grandsons, Steven (Johanna) of Arizona and Danny of Michigan; great-granddaughters, Jennifer of Missouri and Jessica of Iowa; great-grandsons, Jason of Virginia, Joshua of Oklahoma and Brennan of Arkansas; great-great-grandson, C.J. of Iowa; his sister, Nora Fay (Ray) O’Neill of Delmar, Iowa; his brothers, Leon of Bettendorf, Iowa, James of Moline, Illinois and Oral of Scott City Missouri; his very special brother-in-law, Dick May, who was like a son to him and his wife Rosemary; his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Martin of Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews among which were Tom, Angie, Sara, Makala, Lori, Shari, Craig and Tami who were very dear to him.
. Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Everett; his mother, Dora; his brothers, Leo, Estil, Paul and Fredrick; his sister, Dora Mae; his son, Fredrick; his first wife, Virginia Propst; and his second wife, Maxine Winchel;
