Alfred C. “Whitey” Darell, 86, a resident of Davenport, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. Mary’s Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family.
Born on April 14, 1928 in Winona, MN, the son of Peter M. and Agnes (Nord) Darell. He married Lois Burmeister. He then married Patricia Turner. Patricia preceded him in death on August 11, 2002.
Alfred was an auto mechanic and worked as a truck driver for Ryerson Steel in Chicago. He retired in 1980. Alfred was a car fanatic and enjoyed watching golf, going to the gambling boat and hanging out with his friends over coffee. He was a jack-of-all trades.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Deborah J. Andrews of Davenport; sons, Allen C. (Donna) Darell of Omaha, NE, Steven (Georgeann) Darell of Flower Mound, TX, Richard J. Darell of Leavenworth, KS and Dennis (Chari) Darell of Davenport; step-children, Dee Dee (John) Frahm and Gary (Teresa) Hodges, both of Davenport; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; and sisters, Rose and Helen.
