Alice Rowland

Alice Geraldine Rowland, 88, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

Alice was born January 29, 1924 in rural Scott County, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Esther (Miller) Wilcox. She was united in marriage to Roy Rowland in Macomb, Illinois on October 11, 1958. He preceded her in death in 1979.

Alice retired from the Davenport Clinic after over 40 years of service. She was always on the go even in retirement. She volunteered at the hospital and at Newcomb Presbyterian Church. She spent many hours a week at the church working in many of the church’s ministries including Kids Club, the Meals Ministry, Golden Ages and several others.

She enjoyed attending book club, knitting, painting and ceramics. Alice loved to talk about her family whom she cared for deeply. Especially her three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her son, Rod (Dianna) Struss, Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Chad (Bertha) Struss, Jarod (Jennifer) Struss and Sarah (Jeremy) Gripp; her great-grandchildren, Mariela, Josemanuel, Celeste, Joseph, Jacob, Spencer, Sydney, Sawyer, Elijah, Camille, Benjamin and Devyn; her sister, Wilma Schick and her brother Lester (Jan) Wilcox.

In addition to her husband, Roy, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Stella.
