Alice A. “Alkie” Wristen, 74, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
As per her wishes there will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Heritage Association at Heritage Apartments, Davenport, Iowa. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alice was born November 23, 1935 in Davenport the daughter of Ottis and Dorothy (McDaniel) Wristen. When she was a child her younger sister couldn’t pronounce the name Alice so she became “Alkie” and the name stuck.
She was a cook at Harlan’s Fine Foods in Davenport for over twenty-five years.
She was a member of the Heritage Association for many years where she served as president.
She enjoyed playing bingo, being with friends, traveling when she was young, and watching sports of all kinds. She especially loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and her favorite professional wrestler Vern Gonya.
Those left to honor her memory include her siblings, Gladys Swearengen, Bettendorf, Iowa, Jim (Chris) Wristen, Davenport, Iowa, Lillian Phillips, Bettendorf, Iowa and Ken (Jan Purcel) Wristen, Davenport, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and her dear friends at the Heritage Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betty Wristen and her brother-in-law Wayne Swearengen.
