Allan Lane Holst, 70, of Davenport, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 14, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Allan was born October 11, 1934 in Stockton, Iowa, the son of Leroy Cecil & Wilma Sophis (Reins) Holst. He was united in marriage to Laura Mae Pickett on March 26, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa.
Allan was employed as a farmer for several years. He was also a meat cutter for Oscar Meyer in Davenport and had owned and operated his own butcher shops. He had also owned and operated a carpet cleaning business for 25 years.
Allan was a member and officer for the Mississippi Valley Country and Western Music Association and he had been a member of several bands including Mel and the Country Rebels and Fran and the Country Gentlemen. His memberships included the lodges of the Eagles, Elks and Moose, and he had been a member of the Northwest Davenport Business Association.
Among the things he enjoyed were bowling, fishing, wrestling and baseball.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 50 years, Laura; his daughters, Lois Tovrea and her husband, Daniel, Pontiac, Illinois, Patricia Rydzewski, Davenport, Beverly Dugan, Davenport, and Angela Hahn and her husband, Calvin of Davenport; his sons, Steven Holst and his wife, Sara, Park View, Iowa and Melvin Holst, Davenport; thirteen grandchildren, one of whom is serving in Iraq; eighteen great-grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth Holst, Walcott, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons Ronald Allen and Michael D. Holst; his sisters, Marcella Holst and Lois Doerscher; and his brother, Loren Holst.
