Allen A. Petersen, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
A gathering of family & friends will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Catfish Jazz Society Scholarship Fund or to the Lions Club.
He was born October 21, 1928 in Davenport, the beloved son of Julius & Emmy (Prahl) Petersen. Allen earned his Bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport and his Master’s degree from the University of Iowa. On July 31, 1976, he was united in marriage to Patricia A. (Maine) Daufeldt in Aurora, Illinois.
Allen was a Senior Real Estate Appraiser for First Federal Savings & Loan in Davenport, retiring in 1988 after 31 years of faithful service in residential and commercial appraising.
He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1951 to 1955 at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a First Lieutenant.
His memberships included the Bix Memorial Jazz Society, the Catfish Jazz Society where he was a charter member, the Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band Fan Club and the Appraiser Institute where he was a SRPA member. Allen was a former member of the Illiana Club of Traditional Jazz, the Glen Miller Memorial Society, the Davenport Elks Lodge, the Davenport Moose Lodge, the Moline Viking Club and the “24” Dance Club.
Allen was formerly a private pilot. He enjoyed playing the piano, was fond of ballroom dancing and loved attending any & all jazz festivals.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Pat; his children, Beth Petersen of Sanford, Florida, Laurie Funderburk of Eldridge, Iowa and Kevin Petersen of Davenport; his step-children, Judith (Dan Curry) Daufeldt of Christ Church, New Zealand, Juneene (Gary) Felderman of Davenport and John (Susan) Daufeldt of Conroy, Iowa; and his granddaughter, Danielle Sparks of Iowa City, Iowa.
Allen was preceded in death by his daughter, Marki Sparks; and by his parents.
