Allen N. “Bud” Neely, Jr., 88, of Riverdale, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago or Genesis Hospice.
Bud was born on May 18, 1925 in Whitesboro, TX, the son of Allen N. Sr. and Reba (Sullivan) Neely. On November 22, 1946 in Bettendorf, he married Beverly J. Townsend.
Bud served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 – 1946. While in the Navy, Bud served four submarine patrols on the U.S.S. Jallao. Bud worked for the Timmerman Co. of Davenport for 29 years, retiring in 1986 as the Parts and Service Manager.
He was a life-member of the Bettendorf VFW Post 9128 where he served on the Honor Guard for many funerals, Hamilton Lodge #664, Davenport Consistory and Kaaba Shrine where he took great pride in driving children to the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. Bud was a life-long member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed reading, fishing, traveling and was an avid sports fan, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. Bud was privileged to have gone on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2009.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Beverly; his sister, Sandra Hillis of Macon, MO; his brother, Rev. Don (Elaine) Neely of South Bend, IN and his “special girls,” Martha Loft, Stephanie Crampton, Leslie O’Melia, Barb Peterson, Kathy Symmonds and Joyce Spiegel.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Neely and Aylene Wendt.
