Alta Vera Porter, 94, a resident of the Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the center.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Bible Missionary Church of Milan, Illinois.
She was born October 17, 1918 in Binger, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles & Rachel (Justus) Christian.
Alta graduated from the Lawton (Oklahoma) Licensed Practical Nursing School in 1970 and worked for the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton for 14 years, retiring in July of 1984.
She was a member of the Trinity Bible Missionary Church of Milan and a charter member of the Bible Missionary Church in Lawton where she served on several church boards and taught Sunday school.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Charles G. (Rosella) Porter of Bettendorf and William R. “Bob” (Diane) Porter of Roseville, California; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and her sister, Drucilla Bahm of Enid, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Grover Christian and Dain Christian.
