Alvin Gene Harty, 82, of Geneseo, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Kewanee Hospital in Kewanee, IL.
Graveside services, with full military rites by the Moline American Legion, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island. Those wishing to attend should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, IA at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Humane Society.
Born on July 20, 1929, Gene was the son of Youal and Lula (Phillips) Corn. Following high school, Gene enlisted in the United States Army. Gene served his country during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War. After 26 years of service, he retired at the rank of First Sergeant at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1975. Following the Army, Gene worked as a bus driver for Quad Cities MetroLink where he retired in 1992 after 16 years of service.
Gene was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local # 313. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan. Gene loved animals, especially horses. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing and travelling.
Survivors include: his son and daughter-in-law, David & Candace Harty of Bettendorf; two grandchildren, Alania Harty and Kyle Pitcher; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol Corn of St. Louis, MO; and his brother, Ray Corn of St. Louis, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Alvin Gene Harty, Jr.; and one brother, Gerald Corn.
