Alvin H. Hartz, 91, a resident of Bettendorf and the Pleasant Valley area passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf cared for by his loving family.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House or to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport, Iowa where he was a member.
He was born December 27, 1915 on a farm in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, a son of Henry & Elizabeth (Thompson) Hartz. He married Florence P. Stark on August 7, 1940 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Alvin & Florence started farming in rural Pleasant Valley right after their marriage. They moved to the farm in rural Bettendorf in 1950 where they still lived today. He retired from farming in 1993 and moved to a new house on the farm.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the Golden Wedding Club and the German-American Society. In earlier years, Alvin & Florence loved to dance and enjoyed playing cards with their many friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Florence; his son, Allen Hartz of Bettendorf; his grandchildren & their spouses, Troy & Cheri Hartz of Bettendorf, Scott & Kymi Hartz of Bettendorf and Amber & Jay Moser of LeClaire, Iowa; his loving great-grandchildren, Tara, Calvin, Levi, Erin & Lillian; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends and family.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Henry Hartz III May they forever rest in peace.
