Alvin L. Durbin

Alvin L. "Al" Durbin, 69, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at his home following a long & courageous battle with cancer.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a donation to their favorite charities.
He was born January 24, 1938 in Irving, Illinois, the son of Walter & Thelma (Rebman) Durbin. On October 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Della C. House in Witt, Illinois.
Al retired in 1988 as a general supervisor with the Caterpillar Tractor Company after 30 years of service.
In earlier years, he played minor league baseball and was a member of the Illinois National Guard. More recently he enjoyed cutting trees & firewood, buying, fixing & selling cars and spending time in his garage with a variety of crafts and projects.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Della; his daughters, Cara (Larry) Matzen of Eldridge and Kelli (Brent) King of Muscatine, Iowa; his son, Steven (Heather) Durbin of Osage Beach, Missouri; his beloved grandchildren, Jonee & Jentz Matzen, Eric (Durbin) Kahl, Connor, Alexa & Nathan King; and a new baby granddaughter, Laura Lynn Durbin, expected in June; his sister, Kay Ballah of Shattuc, Illinois; and his brothers, Robert Durbin of Witt, Illinois and Ralph Durbin of Bettendorf, Iowa.
Al was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Clinton Durbin in 1986; his brothers, Harold Durbin and Kenneth Durbin; and by his parents.
