Andrew A. Dexter, 71, a resident of rural Eldridge, Iowa died on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department, the American Lung Association or the Scott County 4-H.

He was born in Davenport, Iowa on August 19, 1940, the son of Glenn & Catherine (Bolster) Dexter and was a graduate of Bettendorf High School. In 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his entire tour of duty at Skoffield Barracks in Hawaii. In 1965 he was honorably discharge from active duty as a Specialist 4 th Class.

On March 18, 1967, Andy was united in marriage to Eileen M. Moffit at the Presbyterian Church in Argo, Iowa.

Andy was a life-long farmer in Scott County and was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau. Before his military service, he worked at the J. I. Case Company of Bettendorf and also was a milk truck driver for Swiss Valley Farms.

He loved to play cards (especially euchre) with his family & friends and adored his beloved granddaughter, Delaney. He will be dearly missed by his family & friends, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew & loved him.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 44 years, Eileen; his daughter & son-in-law, Andrea & Curt Engler of Wheatland, Iowa; his granddaughter, Delaney; his brothers & sisters-in-law, Bruce & Emmy Lou Dexter of Princeton, Iowa, Dale & Marla Dexter of LeClaire, Iowa, Craig & Sheryl Dexter of Lost Nation, Iowa and Lee & Shellah Dexter of Lowden, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives & wonderful friends.

His parents preceded him in death.
