Andrew H. “Andy” Graaff, 74, a resident of rural Princeton, Iowa and formerly of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Monday, April 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by his beloved family & friends. They had shared some tears, enjoyed some laughter and together said good-bye to someone they all loved very much.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 9, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and for one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born October 3, 1935 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Thomas & Alverta “Mike” (Schmalz) Graaff and was a 1955 graduate of Davenport High School. On June 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janet “Jan” Woeller at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Andy was employed at the Alcoa Company, Riverdale Works for 37 years and retired as an interplant trucker several years ago. For 25 years, he served as a faithful member of the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
His memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley and the Quad-City Mallards Booster Club.
He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, a season ticket holder for the Quad-City Mallards since 1996 and enjoyed hunting & fishing.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jan; his daughters, Cheryl “Sherri” (Leroy) Saddoris of Aledo, Illinois; Maribeth “Mib” (Larry) Elverd of Princeton, Iowa and Jolene (Pete St. Lawrence) Bowers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his grandchildren, Phillip Bowers, Luke Bowers, Randy Bowers, Tony Elverd, Jesse Elverd, Andrea Eastin, Travis Eastin and Desiree Saddoris; his great-grandson, Matthew Eastin; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew “AJ” Elverd in 2001; his infant grandson, Noah Elverd in 1986; his sister, Joyce Brockhouse in 1997; his brother-in-law, Earl Brockhouse in 2001; his father, Thomas Graaff in 1953; and his mother, Alverta “Mike” Graaff Mettepenningen in 1988.
