d. April 30, 2013

Ardean Duane “Dean” Evans, 78, a resident of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at his home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. The family suggests that all should wear casual clothing at his service and visitation. He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.  Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born in Williams, Iowa on May 20, 1934, the son of Dolliver & Marie (Bernsmeier) Evans.  On July 26, 1984, he was united in marriage to Lois J. Carpenter in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dean served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Spec. 3 rd Class in 1958.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and his Master’s degree from the Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville, Missouri.

Dean taught Industrial Arts at Bettendorf High School for 23 years, retiring in 1990.  Following retirement, he also taught driver’s education for a number of years.

Classic cars were a favorite of Dean’s.  He owned a 1956 Thunderbird, a 1963 Corvette and a number of Ford Mustangs over the years.  He loved attending car shows, going out for dinner, was a fan of Dale Earnhardt, enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and spent many enjoyable hours in his garage and around his cars.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lois; his step-sons, Randy Geerts of Moline, Illinois and Brian (Karla) Geerts of Bettendorf; his step-grandchildren, Josh Geerts, Annie Geerts, Adam Geerts, Shelby Geerts, Joey Geerts and Kyle Geerts; and his “adopted” daughters, Lisa Fox of Davenport and Johnna Sparks of Greenwood, Indiana.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Loren Evans in 2005; his step-son, Doug Geerts in 2008; and his step-granddaughter, Andrea Geerts in 1996.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Option Health, Hospice Compassus, Adam Geerts and Lisa Fox, R.N. for their love, concern and care during this difficult time.
