Arline R. Pelo, 88, of Bettendorf, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at home on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
She was born February 22, 1923 to Rudy and Alice (Kuelper) Lamp in Maysville, Iowa. Arline attended a one room school house, and lived on a farm in Maysville. She was a Spelling Bee Champ, and was the Mississippi Valley Fair Queen. Arline started her career in high school doing the books for Hickey Brothers; this is where she became fluent in Gregg-Short hand. She then began work at the Tank Arsenal in Bettendorf.
Arline married her husband Sidney Pelo, on
December 15, 1947
. They started their family a year later. They opened up a business together on State Street in Bettendorf called “Sid’s Cleaners”. Arline then began a successful career in realty. She worked for O’Malley’s, Town-n-Country, Grampp and Ruhl & Ruhl realty companies throughout her career. She was a very giving person who loved to help people, even if it meant forgoing her entire commission to assist people in obtaining their dream.
She enjoyed bowling and won several state and regional championships with the “Thuenen Oilers”. She loved playing cards with family and friends. She was a great hostess and loved having company. She looked forward to the Holiday Season when every year she would host the Pelo’s Annual Holiday Open House, where hundreds of family, friends, and neighbors would come to enjoy great food, cocktails, and company.
Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Pelo, her parents Rudy and Alice Lamp, and her siblings Nelda Porter and Alan Lamp. Survivors include; her son Danny Pelo, and daughters Debbie (Pelo) Guilfoyle, Diane (Pelo) Haigh, her 6 granddaughters Lisa Walker, Carri (Brian) Kilstrom, Niki (Scott) Gillies, Jennifer (Kirk) Jarrett, Lindsay (Ben) Colbert, and Ashley Pelo and 7 Great-Grandsons; Evan, Aidan, Gabe, Nolan, Chase, Henry, and Sam.
The family would like to invite family and friends of Arline to one last “Open House” to celebrate her life on Thursday September 22, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at 1103 Jones St. in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
