Arnie was born June 29, 1945 in Davenport, the son of Walter and Pearl (Ehlert) Irwin. He was a 1963 graduate of Bennett High School and a graduate of St. Ambrose University. He married his wife, Cindy on June 23, 1984.
He was a loving son and brother, a proud and devoted father, a beloved husband, a loyal Mid-American employee, a faithful friend, a Hawkeye fan, a voracious reader, gardener, woodworker, problem solver, biker and car buff.
Arnie had a servant’s heart, giving much and expecting little. For forty years he joined with others doing church and community service. Above all, he was a gentle man and child of God.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy; his mother, Pearl Irwin; his sons, Shaun Strickland of Littleton, Colorado and Sam Irwin and his wife Crystal and grandson, Austin of Davenport; his brothers, Marvin Irwin and his wife Carol of Tipton, Iowa and Donald Irwin and his wife Sharon of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family wishes to thank the amazing caregivers at Davenport Lutheran Home who have been Arnie’s extended family for four and a half years.
