Art Rose Jr.

August 3, 1929 — January 8, 2021

Otis Arthur Rose, Jr. (91), a resident of Riverdale, Iowa passed away due to COVID-19, Friday, January 8, 2021.   He was born August 3, 1929 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Otis A Rose, Sr and Bernice Rose.  He was united in marriage to Berta Rose on January 16, 1951.

He was a U.S. Army corporal M.P. during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Patton Barracks in Heidelberg, Germany.  He worked at ALCOA for 30 years before retiring in 1986.  He served for many years as a volunteer firefighter for both Pleasant Valley and later Riverdale, Iowa.  He was an avid car enthusiast and owned several classic and antique cars throughout his life.  After retiring they moved to Naples, Florida then to Linville Land Harbor in Newland, North Carolina before moving back home to Iowa in 2009.

Art will be remembered as a loving husband, father of two, grandfather of two and great-grandfather of four.  He and his wife loved to go on cruises and travel in their RV and were members of Good Sam’s RV Club for many years.

Those left to honor his memory include his brother Dennis L Rose (Patricia), his son O. Art Rose, III (Diane Schmidt), his daughter Cynthia (John) Hughes, grandchildren Eric (Stephanie) Dockus and Lindsey (Kyle) Schutte and great-grandchildren Charlie, Josie, Tanner and Hayden along with several special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors whom he loved dearly.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Berta who passed away last July.

He was so full of life and good humor and our hearts are sad but happy to know he will be with his beloved wife.  They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on January 16th.

To honor his memory, please post a story or funny memory of him on the McGinnis/Chambers website.  It will be a special memory for his family to read for years to come and he will be laughing up in Heaven.  Due to Covid-19, a private service will be held.
