Arthur J. Butterfield, 76, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Bettendorf Christian Church where he was a member. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon, Ohio at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 22. Memorials may be made to the family.
Art was born August 14, 1934 in Massillon, the son of Sidney & Mary Belle (Lewis) Butterfield. He was united in marriage to Sally J. Swihart in Indiana. He later was united in marriage to Kitty J. Malavite on September 24, 1988 in Bettendorf.
He had worked for Massillon Steel Castings before moving to Bettendorf where he was employed at Sivyer Steel. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
Art enjoyed singing in his church choir at Bettendorf Christian Church. He was known as a can-do guy who like to fix various things. He also enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kitty; his sons, Andrew, of Bettendorf, Robert (Ruth), of Danville, Illinois and Scott (Debbie) of Massillon; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara (Ed) Bush of Ashland, Ohio; his brother, David (Becky) Butterfield of Massillon; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends and their children who all called Art “Grandpa.”
Art was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carla Marsh; his sister, Dorothy; and his brothers, Donald & Evan.
