Arthur E. “Art” Hintz, 90, a resident of Davenport, formerly of Bettendorf, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 23 rd at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 19, 1924 in Galva, Illinois, Art was the son of Rudolph and Marguerite (Geleng) Hintz. On March 19, 1948 in Geneseo, Illinois, he married Gladys M. Johnson.
Art served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed at Compliment Vans of Camanche, Iowa retiring in 1990. Art was an avid golfer, and following his retirement he volunteered for 26 years at the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament. He also volunteered at the Glenn’s Creek Junior Golf Clinic and was also a Ranger.
Art was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he served on many committees and boards throughout 58 years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gladys; children, David (Sherry) Hintz of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Barbara (Gregg) Strode of Santa Clarita, California; four grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Hintz, Chad Hintz, Sarah and Emily Strode; sister, Shirley Barry of Palatine, Illinois; and brother, Paul Hintz of Kewanee, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert, Lawrence and Howard.
