Artie H. Casady, 92, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin, Missouri. Contributions in his memory may be made to Genesis Hospice. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Artie was born July 5, 1917 in Douds, Iowa, the son of Artie A. & Susie K. (Russell) Casady. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in January 1946.
He had been a barber for over 50 years and he operated a barber shop in Tipton, Iowa. In earlier years, he had been a parts dealer for the Ford Motor Company.
Artie was united in marriage to Maxine Younker in August of 1938. He later was united in marriage to Edna Nelson and to Frances Ketcham.
His memberships included the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Lodge #501 and the American Legion where he had been Past Commander. Also, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne & Harry Schafer of Bettendorf; his step-daughter Janet (Robert) Scholl of Vernon, Florida; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Mildred Peel of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Viola Carnes of Ottumwa, Iowa
In addition to his parents and his wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
