Ashley Lynn McCandless, 14, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, October 17, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa following a year-long & brave battle with cancer.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 21, 2005 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle Rd., Bettendorf where she was a member. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ashley was born June 12, 1991 in Silvis, Illinois, the daughter of James & Deborah (Ritter) McCandless.
She was a freshman at Pleasant Valley High School where she was a cheerleader. Always an active and energetic teenager, Ashley loved to play volleyball, softball & basketball.
Her many friends and beloved family will always remember Ashley as an outgoing and enthusiastic person who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be sadly missed, but never far from the hearts of those she loved and loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her mother & step-father, Deborah & Barry Sievers of Bettendorf; her brother, Austin; her grandpa, Jack Ritter of LeClaire, Iowa; her grandma & grandpa, Becky & Blaine Kirby of LeClaire; her grandpa & grandma, James & Karalee McCandless in Indiana; her grandpa & grandma, John & Gwenda Sievers of Calamus, Iowa; her grandma, Marilene McCandless, of Davenport; her great-grandma, Lilly Ritter of Davenport; her great-grandma, Emma Cristillini in Italy; her great-grandma & great-grandma, Merton & Betty Holmlund of Washington, Iowa; and her aunts & uncles, David & Lori Ritter of Morris, Illinois, Paul Ritter of Columbus, Ohio, Kathy McCandless of Davenport, Mark & Vicki Sievers of Grand Mound, Iowa and Tom & Debbie Diereks of Grand Mound.
Ashley was preceded in death by her father, James.
