Barbara Hansen

Barbara J. Hansen, 77, of Eldridge, Iowa, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Mesa, Arizona.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 4, 2012 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose University.

Barbara was born March 17, 1935 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Clifford & Carmaleta F. (Powell) Postlewait. She was united in marriage to John G. Hansen on July 13, 1957 in Oak Park. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1997.

Barbara was a graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport. She had retired from the Army Corps of Engineers at the Rock Island Arsenal after over 20 years of service.

She enjoyed spending her time with her family, the company of close friends, playing computer games and doing puzzles.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Cynthia (Myron) Zabel of Eldridge and Edith Hansen of Mesa, Arizona; her sons, Douglas Hansen of Davenport and John (Cory) Hansen of Denver, Pennsylvania; ten loving grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Nancy (Mark) Vegedes; and her brothers, Robert Turner and William (Maxine) Turner.

In addition to her husband, John, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Postlewait; and her sister, Susan (Rick) Loechl.
