Barbara R. Mecum-Jones, 79, of Dora, Missouri, formerly of Davenport and Kansas City, went to be with the Lord on New Year's Eve 2014 after a prolonged illness.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Barbara was born October 9, 1935 in Moline, the daughter of Cleo and Geneva Smothers Cox. She attended Moline schools, and graduated from Moline High School in 1953. She married Jim Jones in Branson, Missouri in July 2009.
Barbara was employed at Temple B'nai Yehuda in Kansas City and retired from there. She and her husband travelled around and enjoyed the many shows and attractions in the Branson area.
Barbara loved reading her Bible, which she did every day and enjoyed being a housewife. She was a member of the Dora Church, where she attended faithfully
Survivors include her husband, Jim Jones of Dora; daughters LaVonna (Brian) Sherman of Kansas City and Marie Hammond of Houston; grandchildren Candice and Sydney Sherman, Kelly and Brenda Colbert, and Grant Hammond; eight great-grandchildren; brother William Cox of St. Petersburg, Florida; and sister M. Yvonne Voelcker of Bettendorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dale and daughter Sheila.
