Barbara J. Mohr, 99, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge where she was a charter member. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the Eldridge Fire Department.
Barb was born May 27, 1922, in Jamestown, New York, the daughter of John & Helen (Howard) Horton. Her family moved to Davenport in 1936 and she was a 1940 graduate of Davenport High School. She was united in marriage to Alvin G. "Whitey" Mohr, her high school sweetheart, on May 21, 1944 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2014.
Barb and Whitey spent many years farming west of Eldridge before moving to Long Grove, Iowa. For many years, they had traveled to Canada for annual fishing trips with friends and family. Whitey & Barbara were long-time members of various card clubs with their many friends.
She had been a 4-H leader, Past-President of Luther Manor and volunteered many years with the Heart Association of Scott County. Active for many years with Faith Lutheran Church, Barb was honored as “Senior Citizen Queen” of the Mississippi Valley Fair in 1997 and was also supportive of the athletic and music boosters of the North Scott School District.
Barb had worked for the Bettendorf Medical Center for many years. She was proud to have been a part of the American Legion Auxiliary and with her husband, they were honored to be crowned as King & Queen of Grand Haven in North Scott’s homecoming parade.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Dennis Mohr of Eldridge, Alan Mohr (Michelle Rolsch) of Eldridge, Larry Mohr of Donahue and John (Cathy) Mohr of Eldridge; her grandchildren, Eric Mohr (Angie) & their children, Zac, Isabella & Arianna; Ryan (Leslie) Mohr & their children, Madison & Alaina; Nathan Mohr, Jennifer Bunn (Wayne) & their children, Grace, Catherine, Rachel, Charlotte & Adriana; Logan Bunn, Alex Mohr (Madi) and Logan Mohr.
In addition to her husband, Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Mohr and adopted son, Bob Graves; her brother and sister-in-law, Fred & Erleen Horton; and her daughter-in-law, Donna Mohr.
Barb’s family would like to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staffs of Grand Haven and Heartland Hospice for all of their generous care and comfort they provided for Barb.
