Barbara Ellen Knapper, 85, a resident of Hackensack, Minnesota formerly of Eldridge Iowa passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at the Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Our Lady of The River Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa with a viewing at 10:00 am and mass beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Barbara was born December 26, 1923 in Fairfield Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Georgia (Jackson) O'Brien. She was united in marriage to Elmer Knapper on April 18, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri.
Barbara helped on the family farm with Elmer until they retired in 1978. She and Elmer then moved to Hackensack, Minnesota, where she spent her days on Pleasant Lake. Barbara was actively involved in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Hackensack Senior Citizens Center and other community activities.
She is survived her daughters, Catherine (John Gubbings) Knapper, of Bethesda, Maryland, Linda Knapper of Elk River, Minnesota, Teresa (Keith) Knapper-Harris of Las Vegas, Nevada, Karolyn (Greg) Good, of St. Augustine, Florida, and Diane (John) Brawley of Plymouth, Minnesota; his sons, Elmer Knapper Jr., of Eldridge, Iowa, Gary (Donna) Knapper, of Donahue, Iowa, and Thomas (Jackie) Knapper, of Davenport, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was dearly loved by all and adored by her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Elmer Knapper; her son, Edward Knapper, her granddaughter, Jane Knapper, her great-grandson Keith Richards, and her great-granddaughter, Olivia Sykes.
