Bernice Mitte McConnell, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Born on September 5, 1930 in Dubuque, Iowa, Bernice was the daughter of William “Bill” and Marcella “Marcy” (Nies) Mitte.
Bernice worked as an executive secretary for various businesses, including Martin Marietta Cement Company and Davenport Park and Recreation. She enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes. Bernice was a voracious reader, and loved birdwatching and fishing.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, John S. (Andrea) McConnell III of Clearwater, Florida, William Mitte (Karen) McConnell of Sarasota, Florida, Kathryn Ann McConnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jerome S. (Cecilia) McConnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jeffrey A. McConnell of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Nicholas, Stephen, Daniel, Mara, Brenna, Veronica and Zephyr; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Eileen Newton.
