Bernice M. Steele, 100, a resident of Eldridge, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services celebrating her life will be at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, at 12 noon on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity or to Our Savior Presbyterian Church, LeClaire, Iowa.
Bernice was born February 29, 1916 to Michael and Bertha (Meyer) Mack in Pomeray, Iowa. She married Lloyd N. Steele on August 26, 1934. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1987.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bernice was a member of Our Savior Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for several years. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, cooking, gardening, bowling, traveling and playing cards. Her most valued assets were her family and friendships.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Marlin (Anita) Steele of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Joan Peters of Eldridge; grandchildren, Michael (Sharon) Cavallo of Eldridge, Joseph (Melissa) Peters of Bettendorf, Renata Stowell of Phoenix, AZ, Erin (Todd) Pope of Arroyo Grande, CA and Mark McCune of Stevenson, TX; great-grandchildren, Tony Cavallo of Davenport, Angela Cavallo of Studio City, CA, Allison (James) Wiebler of Oxford, OH, Larz Stowell of Chandler, AZ; and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Victoria Kelly of San Diego, CA; and brothers, Ted Mack of Martensdale, IA and Vernon Mack of Fort Dodge, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters; and two brothers.
