Bertha J. Mead

Bertha Jean Mead, 86, a resident of Davenport died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to the family.
Bertha was born January 21, 1923 in Davenport, Iowa the daughter of Charles Onslow and Bertha Cecil (Hays) Cross. She was united in marriage to Chester Charles Mead on November 6, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1984.
Bertha was employed at Oscar Mayer & Co. in Davenport for nineteen years.
She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino boats. She loved caring for her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Earl (Judy) Mead of Davenport; her six grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Amanda Mead Saurs and Alice Cross; her special niece, Luann Devetter; her special friends Barbara Olsen and Bernice Luse and many other close friends.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son, John William Mead, her grandson, Jessie Charles Mead, her sister, Nora May and her brothers, Wayne and David.
