Bessie L. Smith, 99, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of LeClaire, Iowa died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Palmer Hills Retirement Center in Bettendorf.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the LeClaire Presbyterian Church. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the LeClaire Presbyterian Church.
She was born August 8, 1915 in LeClaire, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Wilson) Domer and was a graduate of LeClaire High School. On March 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to Cecil Muzzy. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1943. She was later united in marriage on June 25, 1949 to Gale Smith in LeClaire. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1990.
Bessie was employed for seventeen years at the former Schwenke Pharmacy in LeClaire.
Her memberships included the Silver Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star #302, the LeClaire Civic Club and the Buffalo Bill Museum of LeClaire where she was a founding member. She was a longtime and faithful member of the LeClaire Presbyterian Church for over 70 years.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Marilyn J. (John) Bodey of Sonata, Arizona; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah) Bodey and Sara (Bryce) Potter, all of Tucson, Arizona; her great-grandchildren Steven, Karen and Abigale Bodey, all of Tucson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husbands, Bessie was preceded in death by her brothers, William Domer, LeRoy Domer, John Domer and Cecil Domer.
