Bettie Barss

Bettie J. Barss, 98, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. An additional memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home in Ravenna, Ohio. She will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to Churches United of the Quad City Area at 2535 Tech Dr. #205, Bettendorf, IA 52722 or to Asbury United Methodist Church at 1809 Mississippi Blvd, Bettendorf, IA 52722 for the parish nurse or music programs.

Born on November 28, 1918 in Coshocton, Ohio, Bettie was the daughter of Herman and Mary (Bradford) Hultz. On December 29, 1942, she married Rev. Donald Barss. He preceded her in death in 1990.

Bettie worked as a business administrator for a private school for the developmentally disabled. She volunteered at the Family Museum in Bettendorf and “Call for Action” of KWQC Channel 6. Bettie enjoyed music and traveling. She cherished her time spent with family.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Reg (Jane) Barss of Annapolis, Maryland and Anne Barss of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Irene, Nathan, Emily, Caleb and Courtney; a sister, Doris Grant of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Hultz; and a sister, Margaret Darr.
