Betty Bicknell

Betty G. Bicknell, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away on January 25, 2015 at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28 th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Born on January 4, 1933 in Kalkaska, Michigan, Betty was the daughter of Noble and Mabel (Thompson) Carroll. In August of 1952, Betty married Murray Bicknell.

Betty grew up in Kalkaska, Michigan and graduated with honors from Barryton High School in 1951. She held various jobs in the Quad Cities as a bank teller, tax preparer, department store clerk and computer assembly production. In June of 1981, Betty received her RN degree from Scott Community College and held various nursing positions at local hospitals and at a private hospice organization. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, being a direct descendant of Lieutenant Stephen Noble who answered the alarm at Lexington in 1775.

During Betty’s later years she focused on development of relationships with her grandchildren in their endeavors to grow up as responsible, fun loving adults. She loved traveling to foreign countries and “never met a stranger she didn’t like.” Betty’s life is a testament to all her family and friends who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Murray; sons, Rhett (Marilyn) Bicknell, Charlie (Kerry) Bicknell and Ray (Janet) Bicknell; daughter, Rebecca Ruggero; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Noble, Acil and John; and sisters, Connie and Joann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Charles, Frank, Larry and Edith.
