Betty Jagerson

Betty Lou Jagerson, 86, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services in Davenport.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire where her mother is interred.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Betty was born September 26, 1929 in Franklin Township in northern Iowa, the daughter of Ralph & Rosetta (Ruckhaber) Wickham.   She was united in marriage to William Shumate who preceded her in death.

Betty loved children and worked in caring for them throughout her life.  She was a very giving person who loved playing guitar and violin as a young woman.  In later years, she still enjoyed listening and dancing to music.  She hosted home Bible studies and was involved at church as much as possible because of her love of the Lord.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Robin (Michael) Russell of Rock Island, Steven Shumate and Rory Shumate of Bettendorf, and Monty Shumate of Pleasant Valley; grandchildren, Josh, Joe, Steve, Jim, Chad, Tom, Sam, John, and Max; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Wickham; and her children’s father, William Shumate.
