Betty Lou Raple, 88, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quad-City Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
She was born in Davenport on July 7, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Ives) Stahr. On May 21, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Robert M. Raple at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Davenport. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1993.
Betty was employed at the Ralston-Purina Company of Davenport, retiring in 1980 after 35 years of faithful service.
She enjoyed bowling, playing cards with her friends, babysitting, attending auctions, antiques and watching Tiger Woods play golf.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Cathy Buffington of Davenport; her son, Henry H. “Butch” Haines of Davenport; her grandchildren, LaDonna Haines of Davenport, Billy Jo Haines of Bettendorf, Sharon Tellez of Davenport, Heather Bowdry of Muscatine, Iowa, William Haines Jr. of Davenport, Robert Haines of Davenport, Rodney Haines of Davenport, James Haines of Davenport and Bradley Haines of Davenport; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a close friend she’s known since childhood, Betty Wells, of Davenport; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Raple; her son, William E. Haines Sr. and her son-in-law, Gerald Buffington.
