Betty Mae Ray, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Bettendorf Health Care Center.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Born on May 2, 1927 in Centerville, Iowa, Betty was the daughter of John M. and Mary S. (Sowers) Bennett. On December 24, 1948 in Centerville, she married William “Bill” Ray. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2000.
Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star as well as a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. Betty enjoyed fishing, shopping and cherished her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Jimmy (Mary Beth) Ray of Dickinson, TX and Charles Ray of Eldridge; three grandchildren, Melissa Sue Harris, Yvonne Louise Lawley and Kyle William Ray and five great-grandchildren; and her friend, Susan Hinze of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Helen Figgins and Flossie Moore; and brothers, Robert, Charles, Arthur, Ray and John Bennett.
