Betty Anne Purington, 78, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at her home.
A time of sharing will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf.. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. A tree will be planted in Betty’s memory along the bike path in Bettendorf. Memorials for this planting may be left at the funeral home.
Betty was born August 8, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Forrest I. & Hazel W. (Carr) Ray. She married Kenneth Lee Purington in Chicago, Illinois in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1968.
In earlier years, Betty was employed at Citizens Federal Savings & Loan in Davenport. In more recent years, she worked as marketing director for the Palmer Hills Retirement Village. She spent many enjoyable hours volunteering for various activities at Palmer Hills.
She was a song stylist of music from the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s and enjoyed other “big-band” music. Betty was committed to her well-being and the pursuit of happiness. She was a person who “lit up a room” and enjoyed the company of her family, her friends and her friends to be.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Nancy Purington & her husband, Mark Tade of Iowa City, Iowa, Gayle Anne Shugars & her husband Greg of Basalt, Colorado and Curtis Ray Purington & his wife, Christina of Eagan, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Enosh Kelley of Des Moines, Iowa, Nathan Tade of Iowa City and Taylor Anne Purington of Eagan, Minnesota; her great-granddaughter, Mia Echo Huddleston Tade of Iowa City; and many close & special friends.
