Betty J. Conklin, 70, a resident of rural Donahue, Iowa, died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, March, 21, 2009 with her family by her side.
Private family graveside services will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Betty was born December 6, 1938 in Beatrice, Nebraska, the daughter of Donald &
Gladys Guenther. On January 2, 1957 she was united to marriage to
Arthur L. Conklin in Seattle, Washington. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2007.
Betty had been employed in earlier years as an electrical technician for the Borg Warner in California and the former Red Jacket company in Davenport. She participated in the activities of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf and American Legion Post 532 of Donahue and was a member of the Women's American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty enjoyed gardening and the company of her pet animals. She was an avid seamstress and she enjoyed fishing and the quiet surroundings of her rural home. She leaves behind a peacefulness in the hearts of her family and friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Geri Carter of Davenport, Iowa and Patricia (Jerry Hart) Conklin of Louisville, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Ryan Carter, of Davenport, Eric Carter (Callie Fields), of Princeton, Iowa, Adam Carter of Davenport, Jacob (Tara) Carter, of Bettendorf, Jesse Alexander, of Louisville & Joshua Delveau of Louisville; her great-grandchildren, Michael Delveau, Gage Carter, Breanne Carter & Adam Carter; one sister and two brothers. In addition to her husband, Art,
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her son-in-law, Kevin Carter.
