Beverly Ruth Kaighin, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  She will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Beverly Kaighin Scholarship at Iowa Wesleyan College.

Beverly was born April 27, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Walter James and Bertha Sophia Wilhemina (Danielson) Scott.  She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1944 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College where she earned her teaching degree in Elementary Education.  Beverly was united in marriage to Irvin Kendell “Ike” Kaighin on October 19, 1952 in Trenton, Iowa.

She retired after more than 30 years of teaching, much of which was in the Bettendorf School System.  While still able, she was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and helped with projects such as world missions.  She was a member of the Starlette Circle of International King’s Daughters and Sons for many years.  Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, crafts, Hawkeye basketball and collecting dolls.  Beverly loved spending time with her beloved family and many friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Irvin; her daughters, Becky (Richard) Roller of LeClaire, Iowa and Penny (Tom) Grunder of Beloit, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Krista (Will) Stensrud of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lisa (Tony) Corsiglia of LeClaire, Kimberly (David Schlachtenhaufen) Grunder of Los Angeles, California, Allison (Brian) Guzzo of Castle Rock, Colorado and Jeff (Elise) Grunder of Beloit; her great-grandchildren, Kaighin Stensrud, Adler Guzzo, Michael Corsiglia and two more great-grandsons on the way; and her brother, Dan (Betty) Scott of Burlington, Iowa.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, James Scott.
