Obituary: Beverly A. Bitzer
Beverly A. Bitzer, 75, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, February 1, 2008 at her home.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Nature Conservancy, the Ames Historical Society, the Putnam Museum or the Big Bluestem Audubon Society.
Beverly was born March 9, 1932 in Davenport, the daughter of Henry H and Otillie (Schreck) Rosenkranz. She was united in marriage to Roy J. Bitzer in Davenport in 1950. For their honeymoon they traveled the Mississippi River by rowboat from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Cairo, Illinois. They would camp out on islands at night and stop in towns along the way. Beverly and Roy were later divorced. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Beverly worked as a housekeeper for St. Luke’s Hospital/Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. She also worked for the family attorney Richard Paulos.
Beverly was a fan of classical music and enjoyed attending classical concerts. She also enjoyed gardening, going out to eat and politics. She was somewhat involved in the Democratic Party in her younger years. She also taught baton twirling at small schools in the area when she was young. She had an interest in nature conservation and enjoyed the outdoors. She was a member of the Putnam Museum for ten years and enjoyed attending the IMAX presentations
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Royce Bitzer of Ames, Iowa; her brother, Larry Rosenkranz of Davenport; her nephew, Ron (Debbie) Ponstler of Bettendorf; her niece, Barbara (Billy) Vandermey of Arkansas; her cousin Marvin (Millie) Noll of Davenport and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Arlene Ponstler, Velma Rosenkranz, Gladys Hamilton and her brother, Robert Rosenkranz.
