Beverly J. Schmidt

Beverly J. Schmidt, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf following a long & brave battle with A.L.S.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House or the A.L.S. Foundation.
She was born April 7, 1934 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of August & Irma (Popelier) Donis. On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jerry Schmidt in Moline.
Beverly and her husband owned & operated S & L Grocery in Bettendorf for many years. She took special pride in her noontime cook-outs at the store where many people enjoyed a delicious lunch of butterfly porkchops, grilled chicken, ham salad and a variety of other homemade goodies. After their retirement, she & Jerry spent many enjoyable hours playing cards (euchre & five-hundred) with their many friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 54 years, Jerry; her daughters, Pam Bloomberg of Bettendorf, Karen (Kurt) Rauch of Bettendorf, Jeri-Jo (Wayne) Dowty of Westchester, Ohio, Doreen Schmidt of Ames, Iowa and Georgia Staub of Bettendorf; her beloved grandchildren, Justin, Cathy, Stephen, Erin, Monica, Karie, Laura, Nick, Tyler, Brandon, Nate, Megan & Brenna; and her brothers, Frank (Connie) Donis and Henry (Linda) Donis, all of Moline.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Genesis Hospice and the Clarissa Cook Hospice House for their professional and compassionate care shown to Beverly and the family during her illness.
