Billy Crump

December 2, 1930 — June 22, 2014

Billy G. Crump, 83, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf.  A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664 A.F. & A.M.  Graveside services will be at 2:30 P.M. Thursday at the Aledo Cemetery in Aledo, Illinois where military honors will be conducted by the Aledo American Legion Post 121.  Memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

He was born in Independence, Iowa on December 2, 1930, the son of Roy & Opal (Creson) Crump.  On February 24, 1964, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Hays in Seaton, Illinois.

During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged from active duty as a Corporal in 1953.

Billy was employed as a supervisor for the Alcoa Company, retiring in 1989 after 40 years of faithful service.

In addition to Asbury United Methodist Church, he was a life-member of Hamilton Lodge #664, A.F. & A.M., a life-member of the Davenport Consistory, a member of Kaaba Shrine and a member of the High-12 Club.

Billy was an accomplished woodworker, an avid reader and a loyal fan of Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling.  His family, especially his grandchildren were the love of his life and although they will miss him, his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who knew & loved him.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jean; his daughter, Candy Crump of Davenport; his sons, Jeff (Stacy) Crump of Houston, Texas and Jay (Krista) Crump of Wilton, Iowa; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Shane) Edge, Tyler Crump, Paul Crump and John Crump; his sisters, Ruth (Paul) Trammel of Yukon, Oklahoma, Betty Hearn of Silvis, Illinois and Shirley Johnson of Moline, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
