Billy Grimmer

Bill Grimmer, 94, of Davenport, Iowa, died peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the chapel.  Burial will be private at Davenport Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ridgecrest Foundation.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born November 10, 1924, the eldest son of William Jefferson Grimmer and Nan Palona Davidson Grimmer in Ozona, Texas. He married Gloria Joyce Olson on June 12, 1949 and they were partners in life for nearly 70 years.

Billy graduated from Medical School at the University of Iowa in 1949. He served his country as a flight surgeon in the Korean War and then practiced medicine in Grinnell, Iowa until 1963. He went on to complete a residency in psychiatry which was his true career passion. He practiced Psychiatry in Davenport until retirement.

Bill and Gloria had four children: Nan Amanda, William Paul, Daniel Luke, and Matthew Frederic. He has six grandchildren: Christopher and Nate Tavella; Cecilia, Isabel and Daniel Grimmer, and Nathan DeFoe. He has multiple great-grandchildren with more on the way.

Dad loved life, the individual spirit, and had an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Above all, he valued education and had a generous heart. He spent his last years at Ridgecrest Village and was deeply grateful to the staff at Ridgecrest and especially grateful to his Grandson Nathan whom he had helped to raise and who had been instrumental in helping to care for Bill and Gloria in their later years.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings (Betty, Edward, and Jeanette), and two of his children (William and Matthew).
